get close to some real folks: couple of times during the parade he and michelle obama got out off the limousine and walked for a couple of blocks. floats go by. on the national mall today. no official estimate of the crowd count. we haven't heard from the u.s. park police yet. one inaugural source told us that there were more than a million people out on the mall today. and if that number holds, not only is is it more than they expected to come out but it would easily count as the largest crowd ever for a second inauguration. we talked to plenty of folks out on the mall and along the parade route today to get their thoughts on today's celebrations. here is what they told us. >> it was just as inspiring and invoking in terms of, you know, its tone, its presence, and, you know, the ceremony of what it was, definitely 2009 was much larger. >> i think certainly tonight less sort of you fork. the history that was made in 2009 certainly couldn't be recreated. i think this occasion was more of a subdued but sort of confidence affirming kind of ceremony. >> the president is is doing his best.

. tonight, president obama and the first lady michelle are set to appear at a another inaugural ball. this one for white house staffers. a sources telling the associated press lady gaga will take the stage and perform. earlier today the president and the president attended a prayer service at washington's national cathedral. that's a post inauguration tradition that dates all the way back to george washington. there is work to do as well as the president kicks off second term. it's clear there is a lot on the plate. remember, during yesterday's inaugural address the president called for action on everything from deficit reduction to immigration reform and combating climate change. ed henry live at the white house. so what's the administration saying now about all of this? >> well, shep, as you noted. climate change was something that the president was particularly aggressive about and saying he will do something in his second term in office. the problem is he tried earlier in the first term and he got a bill through the house, but it died in the senate. and so there is some question about
